CREATION OF FRÉGATE HANDIGOLF SCHOOL

HANDIGOLF AT DOLCE FRÉGATE PROVENCE

Many clubs have integrated Handigolf Schools into their structure with the aim of integrating disabled golfers into Club life and overcoming their disabilities through specific courses.

The first Handigolf school in the Var region was opened at Golf Dolce Frégate Provence, under the beautiful sun of Provence, in Bandol. The club provides its 18-hole "Frégate” course, considered one of the most beautiful courses in Europe with a unique setting, surrounded by the pine forest and overlooking the sea. A real treat for any golfer. Get ready for 18 Holes of pure pleasure and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Dolce Frégate Provence Club has adapted its facilities and trained its staff to host all disabled people. The Academy’s pros share their knowledge and help golfers improve. The Handigolf school currently welcomes children and adults to discover the sport or work on their game.

A CREATIVE, POSITIVE TEACHING METHOD

The MRP Golf® method is based on the principles of functional rehabilitation and on new learning processes, such as neuro-pedagogical techniques. This allows students to learn how to use their bodies, minds and emotions, and to get rid of bad habits or regain certain skills, the ability to relearn and unconsciously recover motor functions. Our work at the René Sabran Hospital consists, through a fun activity like golf, to help patients who have rehabilitation problems and suffer from motor dysfunction following traumas, operations or accidents.

At the MRP Golf® sessions we seek to stimulate "the four brains": the left hemisphere for reflection, the right for the imagination, the median brain for positive emotions and the cerebellum for controlling movements. This promotes faster progression with less resistance. The most important task for instructors is to channel and captivate the student's attention at every moment. To do this, we focus on the mental picture the student has of the action. The brain does not distinguish between the real and the imaginary, meaning that the student already has the impression of having carried out the gesture.

Then, associated with positive reinforcement, the student will be more active and engaged and will want to put this into practice. This urge is triggered by a fun activity, leading to a personal reward. The concept consists of "centering the coaching on the students to allow them to progress as their brain wishes. When we perform an action with positive emotions, our brain secretes dopamine, the desire to carry on... There are many benefits, including a reduction in stress and anxiety...".

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE VAR GOLF COMMITTEE

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE VAR GOLF COMMITTEE

A little more than a year has passed since the founding of Dolce-Frégate Provence’s certified Handigolf School, backed by its dedicated partners, Véolia, Handigolf South-East and the Var County Golf Committee.

As I return to start a new season, I wish to convey my appreciation for the huge success of all the events held on one of the most beautiful places in our county.

We have always been able to satisfy the large public attending each workshop thanks to the involvement of all the star athletes, the quality of the material made available to the practitioners, and the originality of the events.

With the support of the GEA Academy and the volunteers who have undoubtedly contributed to the success, to the development of the golf playing and the formation of new full-fledged golfers.

The 2017-2018 calendar has many wonderful surprises in store for us. It will be an opportunity to introduce and to still further develop many Handi athletes and to best satisfy the needs expressed by the medical facility patients who contact us and trust us. It is with all that we wish to share our passion for sport and for golf.

Wishing continued prosperity to Dolce-Frégate Provence’s Handigolf School.

Together we will succeed.

Anne Reich

President of the Var County Committee

FIRST HANDIGOLF COURSE - SEPTEMBER 26, 2016

HISTORY & OBJECTIVES

Handigolf, founded in 1993 by golf enthusiasts, Pierre Bonhomme, who is blind, Jean-Francois Claisse, a paraplegic doctor and Bruno Dachicourt, a golf instructor, is a sports association dedicated to disabled golfers.
Licensed in 1997 by the French Golf Federation, it now has 300 members and this number continues to grow. Its operation is based on regional offices, with headquarters in the Paris region. In order to show that being disabled and playing golf is not impossible, the association has set up thirty schools Handigolf across France. For the first time in a sport, the rules of golf are the same for all players, able-bodied or disabled.
Throughout the year, competition and friendly meetings are scheduled at the different partner golf clubs. These events are an opportunity to generate exchanges between able-bodied and disabled players while promoting Handigolf as a sport. This involved both national and international tournaments where able-bodied and disabled players can compete and break down their barriers through golf.
The athletic and mental preparation for these official meetings is achieved through federation and qualifying rounds. The main goal of the Handigolf association is to promote exchanges between able-bodied and disabled people through golf. These exchanges are a very important tool to assist in the involvement of people with disabilities in mainstream society. Its many aims include contributing to the social reintegration of disabled people, changing the perspective of able-bodied people about disabilities, changing the perspective of people with disabilities about themselves, supporting the creation of golf schools, carrying out awareness actions, and organizing friendly and competitive events.

On September 18, 2016, Golf Dolce Frégate Provence opened its Handigolf Golf School, the only Handigolf school in the Var region, thereby participating in the development of this sport in the Var.

In partnership with the Var Departmental Golf Committee and Véolia, we immediately embarked on the project in order to implement it with the September 2016 school term. Thus, every second Monday (except school holidays) for 90 minutes we will host several students who will come either individually or from our partner hospitals in the project including Léon Bérard, René Sabran or Club Coeur et Santé.

The first course was held on Monday, September 26 at 14:00 in the presence of the press who also turned up to promote this sporting and human initiative. Players in search of new sensations, keen to learn and discover and maybe become new enthusiasts? Our pros at Golf Exclusive Academy will provide these free courses on enrollment.

A big thank you to our pros, the Var Handigolf Association, the Departmental Committee and to Véolia for the birth of the Var Handigolf School in Saint Cyr sur Mer!

François Bongrain, Véolia: "The first Handigolf course went very well, even beyond my expectations ... Twenty participants, perfectly coached by the monitors of Golf Exclusive Academy, Giuliano and Lorenzo, accompanied by Handigolf experts Jean Pierre and Bruno... And under the watchful eyes of reporters from France 3 TV and La Provence newspaper..."

Find the pictures of the first course of September 26 on our Handigolf Facebook page.

SPEECH BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE VAR GOLF COMMITTEE

According to INSEE, France has 9 million people with disabilities but only 179,000 are enrolled in a sports federation.

Recognizing this, the French Golf Federation, like many other institutions, set itself the goal of reducing inequalities in the access to sport and has decided to support specific target audiences featuring people with some sort of physical and/or sensory handicap. In this way golf will allow them overcome disabilities and feel more at ease with their bodies. Through golf, we can reconstruct their mental and physical balance. Through golf, we transform and enhances how others view their disabilities. Through golf, we promote autonomy, social integration and reintegration. In summary, for handicapped people, golf is a source of well-being, health and self-fulfillment...

The handicap version of golf is Handigolf. And to start this discipline, we necessarily require so-called Handi-schools to respond to the strong demand from people with a disability whether it is physical, visual or auditory, and whether the players are youths, adults or senior... These schools also help to meet the real needs of patients of medical or specialized institutions in recovery or psycho-motor rehabilitation.

Golf Dolce Frégate Provence, which has already had experience of hosting events for the disabled, undertook the task of opening this new Handigolf school in the Var with the sponsorship and support of several partners committed to this cause: the company Véolia, the South-East Regional Handigolf Association and the Var Departmental Golf Committee. We wanted to enrich and diversify the offer of golf activities aimed at the disabled. A mission accomplished today...

We would like to thank GEA -Golf Exclusive Academy-, which will provide customized supervision to deliver education and contribute to the development of this sport and its regular practice for these new fully-fledged golfers.

We wish the Dolce Frégate Provence Handigolf school all the best in its sporting endeavors, all in a spirit of tolerance, sharing and self-improvement.

And again, I would like to thank all the stakeholders in this initiative, who have looked beyond the disability.

Thank you for your attention.

Jean-Yves Ortega.
